Thanks for the comments, everyone!

Someone emailed and asked if we were married “legally.” Nope. We consider ourselves to be married but that’s not an option in Texas, or, of course, the US generally. If Texas ever grants us the opportunity to be married, we’ll march down to the courthouse and have yet another excuse for a party – but it will definitely be on June 8, whatever year that might be.

Franny, thank you for including us in your Family Day by writing about it and sharing it. Your story proves that regardless of what some people may not approve of, you are living a life full of love, family and positive decisions. It’s hard being a new parent, it’s hard leaving a job you love, it’s hard being a wife. I can only imagine how much more challenging it has to be when there are people who don’t understand and don’t approve. Thank you for showing everyone that at the core, we’re all the same. I wish I had read this when I was younger. It is an inspirational and heart-warming story. I think these stories belong in a “work blog” because they make the blogger real and help engage the audience.

Happy Family Day & Happy Anniversary to you, Franny! I agree with you 100% about resetting and basically doing a priority shift. We cannot do everything perfectly — something will usually give and you don’t want it to be your family. It goes back to the saying, “No one has ever been on their deathbed and said, ‘I wish I had spent more time at the office.’”
